Kenneth Agutamba
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Stanbic Bank Uganda’s country manager for reputation and corporate communication, Kenneth Agutamba, has been named among Africa’s Top 100 Corporate Communication Leaders, a prestigious continental recognition announced during Africa PR Week held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The honour places Agutamba among a select group of senior practitioners recognised for shaping how African organisations manage reputation, communicate purpose and navigate increasingly complex operating environments. Africa PR Week is regarded as the continent’s leading platform for public relations and strategic communications professionals, bringing together industry leaders to advance best practice, strengthen professional standards and amplify African narratives globally.
Speaking after the announcement, Agutamba described the recognition as both humbling and motivating. “This honour is deeply humbling. To be recognised by peers across the continent is both motivating and grounding. I dedicate it to the ecosystem of leaders, colleagues and mentors at Stanbic Bank Uganda and the wider Standard Bank Group who have created the space to lead with confidence, courage and impact,” he said.
“It reinforces my belief that strong, values-led communication is essential to building trust and shaping Africa’s future.”
Appointed to his current role in 2021, Agutamba has played a central advisory role to Stanbic Bank Uganda’s executive leadership, supporting management through critical periods that demanded strategic judgement, calm counsel and disciplined communication. Industry observers note that within the financial services sector, effective communication has become increasingly vital, with reputation resilience closely tied to public confidence and business continuity.
Beyond crisis leadership, Agutamba has been instrumental in shaping a more human-centred and impact-led narrative for the bank. His approach has deliberately foregrounded how financial services translate into tangible outcomes for women, youth and farmers, moving beyond abstract growth metrics to real-life impact. This shift mirrors a broader continental trend towards purpose-driven communication, accountability and stakeholder trust.
His work has also been associated with strengthened engagement between Stanbic Bank Uganda and the country’s media ecosystem. Observers credit this with contributing to more transparent and constructive relationships, as well as a more accessible approach to financial reporting that centres the everyday experiences and aspirations of Ugandans.
Agutamba’s influence extends beyond his institution into the wider financial and communications sector. He is a member of the Professional Public Relations Associations of both Uganda and Rwanda and currently serves as chairperson of the Uganda Bankers Association Peer Committee on Marketing and Communication. In this role, he has helped steer sector-wide dialogue on reputation standards, crisis preparedness and coordinated communication across the banking industry.
He is also a member of the Financial Fraud Consortium Technical Working Group, a Bank of Uganda-supported industry initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration in combating financial crime. These roles underscore a growing recognition of communications leadership as a strategic, industry-shaping function rather than a support discipline.
Stanbic Bank Uganda is the anchor subsidiary of Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited, part of the Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest lender by assets with operations in more than 20 African countries. Agutamba’s recognition at Africa PR Week highlights Uganda’s growing contribution to shaping professional communication standards across the continent.
