Dr Besigye’s supporters pondering their next move at the gate where the military denied them access
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I There is heightened tension at the Makindye based Military Court Martial as the trial of Dr Kizza Besigye proceeds.
We can confirm that hundreds of Besigye’s supporters from People’s Front for Freedom, a political group supporting opposition stalwart, have been barred from entering the court premises.
They are still in the proximity of the court, baying for blood and daring the Military police to get into their circle.
Habari Daily can confirm that security at the Court Martial has been significantly heightened, with layers of security formed by several Government agencies. This is different from the usual Besigye’s court sessions.
Tension started in the early morning when Besigye’s lawyers questioned the authority of the soldiers denying them access to the court premises. Some physical force was exercised when the huge number of legal representative proceeded to shake the gate in an attempt to force it open.

Lawyers were eventually allowed entry into the court, where only known leaders and former legislators were allowed entry.
Legal representatives Dr Besigye and Hajji Obed Lutale Kamulegeya have put Government’s advocates to task on whether it was proper to charge a civilian in the Court Martial.
Their argument is that their client be allowed to appear in a civilian court where he would be eligible for bail.
Court is yet to deliver its ruling on the matter. We will keep you posted on the proceeds.
