HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Three people died following a fatal crash at the Mpala Interchange along the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway on Sunday morning.
According to the Traffic Police, the accident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. and involved a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UBG 734S.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ssenyonjo Bosco, a businessman and resident of Masaka, was reportedly traveling with his family towards the Entebbe side when he lost control of the vehicle due to speeding.
Police said the vehicle first knocked the base of a street light pole before ramming into a road pillar and overturning several times.
“As a result of the crash, three occupants including the driver died instantly while two others sustained severe injuries,” said Michael Kananura.
Traffic Police officers quickly responded to the scene and evacuated the injured victims to Grade B Hospital where they received first aid before being referred to another medical facility for further treatment.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased who lost their lives in this crash. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time and we wish a quick recovery to the injured,” Kananura said.
Police have since urged motorists to exercise caution while using the expressway.
“Motorists are advised to strictly observe speed limits, remain alert while driving and always maintain full control of their vehicles,” Kananura added.
Authorities continue to warn drivers against speeding, noting that high speeds significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes, especially on major highways.
