HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that electricity supply will be disrupted during the election period, assuring the public that power will remain steady nationwide.
UEDCL spokesperson Jonan Kiiza said the notice urging prepaid customers to purchase electricity units in advance is fake and did not originate from the company.
“We want to assure Ugandans that there will be uninterrupted power supply during the election period. That notice is not from UEDCL. It is fake and does not carry our official branding or colours,” Kiiza said.
He warned members of the public against panic buying, saying there is no planned shutdown of electricity services.
“There is no reason for people to rush to buy electricity units they do not need. Our services across the country will continue to operate normally before, during and after the elections,” he added.
Kiiza further revealed that the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has guaranteed continuity of communication services throughout the electoral period.
“UCC has assured us and the public that essential services such as internet connectivity and mobile money will remain operational,” he noted.
