
The security guard who shot and killed Mutinisa, in the company of the driver
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Police have confirmed the arrest of Hillary Byaruhanga, a 28-year-old private security guard, over the shocking murder of Kampala businessman Anthony Mutinisa, the proprietor of Mutinisa Motors Uganda.
Mutinisa, aged 53, was shot dead on Sunday evening in what investigators have described as a cold-blooded attack. Byaruhanga, who was attached to Don World Security Limited, is accused of pulling the trigger before fleeing the scene.
After the killing, the suspect escaped with the victim’s vehicle, registration number UA 769 BQ, which was later recovered in Katwe Cell, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District. Police say Byaruhanga fled Kampala after the incident, seeking refuge in Kanungu, where he was eventually tracked down.
He was arrested alongside Mark Akampa, who is believed to have been aiding him in his escape. Both suspects are now in custody as detectives continue with investigations to establish the motive behind the killing.
Mutinisa, a well-known businessman in Kampala’s automobile industry, built Mutinisa Motors Uganda into a reputable firm, providing employment and services to many in the city. His sudden death has left colleagues and friends in shock.
Mutinisa’s killing has once again cast a spotlight on the regulation of private security firms, with many Ugandans calling for stricter vetting of guards to prevent similar tragedies.
