HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Uganda’s 3-0 win against Guinea took them to second place in the group, and with the highest number of goals.
The Uganda Cranes delivered a 5-star perfect performance to win their 2nd CHAN, sending the home crowd into wide celebrations.
The Ugandans entered the game with a do or die mindset, knowing that they must beat Guinea in their second group C match of the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship or risk early elimination.
When debutant Reagan Mpande replaced the injured Emmanuel Anyama, it brought back life into the squard. He later opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a header off Joel Sserunjogi’s free kick.
In the second half, Uganda was awarded a penalty after a VAR review confirmed a foul on Okello by the Guinea goalkeeper. Okello did what every one was expecting of him by converting the ball in the 61st minute.
Guinea had a penalty shout of their own, but VAL overturned the decision. Later in the 89th minute, striker Ahimbisibwe sealed the happiness of the local crowd by converting a 3rd goal.
This particular victory lifted Uganda to second place in Group C with three points, just behind Algeria that has four points. South Africa is in forth place with one point, while Niger is at the bottom with zero points. Guinea on the other hand has 3 points but has dropped to 3rd place.
The crane squad now awaits President Yoweri Museveni’s pledge that he will award Shs 1.2b bonus for every win Uganda secures during the tournament. They are ecstatic to know whether this was political talk or a promise bordered on truth and reality.
