
Uganda Cranes players celebrating win
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Uganda Cranes fans today turned up in large numbers to the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as the team faced Niger in their third group game of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
The Uganda Cranes didn’t disappoint the home base as they secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Niger..
The victory takes Uganda to the top of Group C with six points, two above Algeria and South Africa, who have played a game less.
Allan Okello broke the jinx when he secured a goal out of the panalty spot. While his shot was initially saved, he was quick to hit the rebound through a header in the 25th minute.
This followed the VAR intervention which ruled that Reagan Mpande was fouled in the box, leading to the penalty award.
Several minutes Joel Sserunjogi doubled Uganda’s lead with a rare strike.
He busted into the net after 10 minutes into the second half. He was set up by Allan Okello before he kicked the ball into the wide net.
Elvis Ngonde, was then brought onto the pitch to Ssebagala, who walked off the pitch injured.
Uganda return to action on Monday, August 18, as they take on South Africa in their final game of the group.
Uganda’s squad included Joel Mutakubwa, Herbert Achai, Jude Ssemugabi, Rogers Torach, Reagan Mpande, Hillary Mukundane, Allan Okello, Gavin Kizito, Joel Sserunjogi, Enock Ssebagala and Karim Watambala.
In an earlier match played today, South Africa secured a 2-1 against Guinea.
