Students heading for their UCE papers
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has issued a strong warning to Senior Four candidates currently sitting for their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams, cautioning them against any form of misconduct during the examination period.
In a press statement released yesterday, UNEB revealed that some candidates sitting the Biology Practical Paper showed early signs of improper behaviour, prompting the board to remind students of the serious consequences of malpractice and indiscipline.
“Any candidate found involving himself or herself in malpractice in the examination may be refused to continue with the examination, disqualified, arrested and handed over to the Police. Such a candidate may be barred from sitting any other UNEB examinations,” reads part of the caution from UNEB.
According to the Board, some rowdy students have already been placed under police watch while sitting for their papers, to ensure that their actions do not disrupt others.
“In some schools, disorderly candidates are writing their examinations under police observation,” the statement noted.
UNEB further emphasized that improper behaviour during exams is categorized as malpractice. This includes acts such as making noise, disobeying supervisors, attacking or threatening invigilators, and any form of violence or disruption.
Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the Board’s Principal Public Relations Officer, urged candidates to uphold discipline and focus on their exams rather than engage in reckless behaviour.
“We advise all candidates to strictly follow school and UNEB guidelines. Any form of misconduct — whether fighting, breaking school property, drug abuse, or abusing invigilators — will not be tolerated,” Kalule-Musamba said.
As most candidates complete their core papers this week and await electives next week, UNEB reminded schools to remain vigilant and maintain order throughout the examination period.
