HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Uganda Registration Service Bureau (URSB) has broken the business registration record, and is now registering new businesses in 3 hours. Officials ahave disclosed that the move has been undertaken in order to enable Ugandans formalize their businesses.
Africa Kirenga, URSB Registrar of Complaints, who was one of the panelists who presented at the Pakasa Forum 2025, said that once formalized and registered by them, any business becomes an artificial person, with the ability to enjoy previlages from Government.
“They would access bank loans and other services from both government and private sector, and be able to outlive it’s founder (s). They would also obtain TIN numbers and tax clearance certificates, which would enable them supply government and other institutions,” he said.
He added that URSB has decided to conduct sensitization outreaches under which they do mass registration of operational firms that are in need of registration.
Dr Ruth Biyinzika, the coordinator of the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) project, a Ugandan government initiative funded by the World Bank to increase access to entrepreneurial services for women in targeted locations, was in agreement on formalization of businesses.
“Many businesses have been unable to get access to loans and other services because they are not registered. We have unveiled a scheme with URSB and UNBS, to enable enterprises register their products and services,” she said.
The Pakasa Forum 2025, which was organized by Vision Group in partnership with Enterprise Uganda, run under the theme: Opportunities and Ideas for Growing Businesses, brought together over 1500 participants.
