HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I  CAF ‘s change of tact is finally of no consequence, following Uganda’s qualification for the continental football competition due in Morocco next year.

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) officials had earlier on leant that the Congo Brazzaville – South Sudan match, which ended with a 3-2 win in favor of the later had been shifted to Thursday.

The match in Juba being played on Thursday came as a real surprise as CAF had in October this year informed member associations that the remaining two rounds would be played at the same time per group.

This in a way disadvantaged Uganda since it had played their first two home games at 7pm. They were instead forced to bring the match against South Africa down to 4pm. Although this helped avoid concerns like syndicate, it put thee Uganda Cranes at a disadvantage in a way.

But the gods were on Uganda’s side, since the Uganda Cranes are now back at AFCON after missing the last two editions. On top of that, they can now play to finish at the top of the table. That has been the prayer of Cranes Belgian coach Paul Put.

 This state of affairs will be factored in as the Uganda Cranes meet South Africa’s Bafana Bafana today at Namboole Stadium. The first encounter ended 2-2. But it’s on record that the Uganda Cranes has never beaten South Africa in the last six encounters between the two. This makes today’s match a do or die for cranes at home turf.

This in effect means that Uganda’s wait for a return to the African Cup of Nations is finally over. This long sought after news came abit early as Uganda Cranes needed just a point from their game against South Africa at Namboole today to confirm their qualification to the 2025 AFCON finals in Morocco.

Uganda will end their campaign away in Congo on November 19th. South Africa on the other hand will end their qualification campaign at home to South Sudan also on November 19.
