HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Mystery shrouds the sudden disappearance of former Ugandan Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among’s verified X account, sparking speculation that the high-profile profile was either hijacked by hackers or deliberately deactivated following a turbulent year in her political career.
The account, previously operating under the handle @AnitahAmong, vanished on October 11, 2026, after reportedly being renamed @GlobalAfricaHQ and having its previous posts deleted.
The profile had more than 613,000 followers and served as a prominent platform through which Among communicated parliamentary updates, political positions, public statements and messages to her constituents.
By Sunday morning, users attempting to access the account were confronted with an “Unable to load” message, leaving followers uncertain about what had happened to the former Speaker’s digital presence.
Neither Among nor an official representative had issued a public statement explaining the disappearance by the time of publication.
Possible account hijacking
The unexplained change of handle and disappearance of Among’s previous posts have fuelled suspicions that the account could have been compromised.
Under the reported changes, the profile was renamed @GlobalAfricaHQ, while the political updates and other material previously associated with Among were no longer accessible.
Such changes can occur when an account owner changes a username or removes content, but they can also arise when an unauthorised person gains control of an account.
However, the disappearance of the posts and the “Unable to load” message do not independently establish that hackers were responsible.

However, possession of a device does not, by itself, establish access to an account or demonstrate involvement in a subsequent social media change.
