HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I An armed confrontation between two heavily armed protagonists can do nothing but send a wave of fear about the possibility of a war that would engulf the entire Middle East.
And matters have not been helped by pronouncements by the man with a nuclear arsenal: Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, the only remaining super power.
In a post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump said, “We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran.”
Soon after hurriedly returning from the G7 summit in Canada, President Trump gathered his top security advisers at the White House Tuesday. Those privy to happenings in Washington have hinted on the US leadership’s view of a protracted war that might even suck in other countries.
In a pointer that the US might make a surprise move to wip out Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, Trump told reporters on Air Force One early Tuesday that he was “looking for better than a ceasefire” and wants “a real end” to Iran’s nuclear program.
He said Iran had good sky trackers and other defensive equipment, and plenty of it. “But it doesn’t compare to American made, conceived, and manufactured ‘stuff,” he wrote minutes ago.
He further noted that nobody does it better than the good ol’ USA.
“The Iranian leader is an easy target, but U.S. will not take him out. “We are not going to take him out, at least not for now,” Trump wrote, adding: “But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin.”
Vance voices support
The US Vice President, also voiced support to Trump’s stance. He said that as the U.S. military increased firepower in the Middle East amid ongoing strikes between Israel and Iran, Trump may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment.
This move seems to be aimed at reassuring President Trump’s supporters who are sceptical of foreign intervention as the president weighs a larger U.S. role in the Iran-Israel conflict.
In a post on X, Vance praised Trump for showing remarkable restraint so far, and suggested his supporters should trust he will prioritize U.S. interests in whatever he does.
He said Trump may need to take further action to end Iranian enrichment.
“That decision ultimately belongs to the president. And of course, people are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy,” said Vance.
US has tie breaker
Military experts pointed out that only the U.S. has the extremely heavy bunker-buster bombs believed capable of penetrating Iran’s most sophisticated nuclear facilities.
“These are buried under mountains. If President Trump decides to join Israel in attacking Iran, he would draw Washington deeply into a war.
The U.S. military has been moving equipment to the Middle East that would help facilitate a broader attack.
Trading missiles
Early Tuesday, Iran fired about 30 missiles toward central Israel, injuring at least 12 people, according to Israel’s military and emergency services.
Tehran claimed it inflicted strategic damage on its sworn enemy.
Iranian media reported explosions and heavy air defense fire in Tehran and explosions in the northwestern city of Tabriz. On Tuesday afternoon, Iran’s military announced attacks against Israel involving hundreds of drones and new and advanced weapons that it said will intensify in the coming hours.
However, Nadav Shoshani, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, told the press that Iran’s overnight attacks were least impactful.
The Israeli leadership, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has not rule out assassinating Khamanei.
