Mandela National Stadium, Namboole will host crucial matches
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Traffic congestion and delays within the Kampala Metropolitan area as Uganda prepares to co-host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 alongside Kenya and Tanzania. The tournament will last for a month. This has prompted the Uganda Police Force to issue a travel advisory.
Micheal Kananura, the Traffic Police spokesperson, said traffic inconvenience is anticipated in Kampala City, and parts of Wakiso and Mukono districts.
“This will mainly be due to the movement of teams from the Airport to training sessions, and match-day activities as Uganda hosts Group C fixtures and key knockout matches at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole,” he said in an interview.
Uganda’s Group C includes the hosts Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. In addition to the group-stage games, Namboole will also host one quarterfinal, a semi final, and the third place playoff match.
“While the official routes designated for the teams arriving through Entebbe International Airport to their respective hotels and training venues in Kampala have been well mapped out, the public is urged to exercise patience and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a smooth tournament,” he said.

He further said that the team set to reside at Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo will travel from Entebbe via the Entebbe Expressway to Kajjansi and then connect directly to Munyonyo.
“For teams designated to stay at Mestil Hotel, the planned route from the airport is through the Expressway onto the Northern Bypass, then via Yusuf Lule Road to Mukwano Road, where they will access the hotel, which is located nearby,” he pointed out.
He added that the team that will be accommodated at Serena Hotel will also use the Expressway from Entebbe Airport, continuing onto the Northern Bypass and then through Yusuf Lule Road to the UBC roundabout, from where they can easily access the hotel, situated just opposite the roundabout.
Kananura further said that teams staying at Skyz Hotel in Naguru, will follow the Expressway to the Northern Bypass, proceed to Kira Road, through Bukoto and up to Naguru hill.
“For the team housed at FUFA Hotel, the route will similarly involve use of the Expressway and Northern Bypass, proceeding until the Kisasi roundabout, which is where the hotel is located.”
Kananura also elaborated on the specific routes teams will use to access the various training grounds designated for the tournament.
These include Namboole Annex, Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU), FUFA Stadium Kadiba in Mengo, and Kyambogo grounds.
