HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled a new medical insurance scheme for the 2025/26 season, a move aimed at safeguarding the health and well being of players in the country’s top football leagues.
In partnership with Case Med Insurance, FUFA has secured a medical cover worth Shs 750 million. The scheme will cater for 700 players drawn from the Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Women Super League.
According to FUFA, the program will cover 400 players from 16 Premier League clubs and 300 players from 12 Women Super League clubs. Each club is required to submit a list of 25 registered players who will benefit from the scheme. The cover officially takes effect on September 1, 2025.
FUFA officials emphasized that the scheme is part of the federation’s larger commitment to supporting players beyond the pitch.
“Footballers put their bodies on the line every time they step onto the field. This medical cover ensures they can access quality healthcare and recover fully when injuries occur. It is a major step forward for player welfare in Ugandan football,” a FUFA representative noted.
The scheme follows previous interventions where several players benefited from FUFA’s support after sustaining injuries, including Josephat Ayebare of Ndejje University FC, who received care after a serious injury in the FUFA Drum, and Shadia Nankya, formerly of UCU Lady Cardinals, who is now playing professionally in the USA.
By extending this comprehensive cover, FUFA is not only addressing a key welfare need but also strengthening the professionalism of the game in Uganda.
