HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Finally, the Federation of Ugandan Football Association (FUFA) has released a roadmap for the resumption of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League (UPL), setting out key timelines aimed at implementing the federation’s Technical Master Plan, enhancing the league’s commercial value, and ensuring a smooth start to the new football season.
According to the roadmap, the 2026/27 UPL season will officially kick off on August 28, 2026, exactly 98 days after the conclusion of the previous campaign. The 2025/26 season ended with Vipers SC crowned league champions, and the extended break is intended to give clubs adequate time to prepare for the new season while completing mandatory licensing requirements.
FUFA explained that the 98-day window is a crucial component of its strategic planning framework. The period will allow clubs to finalize their Club Licensing processes, a key requirement aimed at improving professionalism, governance, and compliance standards across the domestic game.
Preparations for the new campaign will begin with the FUFA Super 8 tournament, which is expected to feature the top eight teams from the previous league season. The competition will run from August 1 to August 16 and is expected to provide clubs with valuable competitive action ahead of the league kickoff.
Attention will then turn to the FUFA Super Cup on August 23. The season-opening showdown will pit league champions Vipers SC against Stanbic Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC. Kitara secured their place in the fixture after defeating SC Villa in the Uganda Cup final at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru last weekend.
FUFA also outlined a detailed club licensing schedule. The primary registration window will open on July 1, with inspection visits to clubs taking place between July 1 and July 15. All licensing documentation must be submitted by July 15 before the federation conducts its final review process.
The governing body is expected to publish the list of licensed clubs eligible to participate in the 2026/27 season on July 27. The official Uganda Premier League fixtures will then be released a day later, on July 28.
The roadmap provides clubs, players and stakeholders with a clear timeline as preparations begin for another highly anticipated season of Ugandan football.
