HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Mityana District Woman MP, Joyce Bagala, has opened up about why she believes the National Unity Platform (NUP) passed her over during its candidate selection process.
Bagala, a high-profile figure in the party, lost the chance to reclaim her parliamentary seat to Proscovia Nabbosa Mukisa, a lesser-known party member.
Speaking on a podcast hosted by social commentator Frank Ntambi, Bagala suggested her closeness to former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga played a role in her exclusion.
She recalled that when Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mpuuga was removed from the party, she did not publicly denounce him — a decision she believes affected NUP’s perception of her loyalty.
Bagala emphasized that she has always been a committed member of the party and insists that her political setback was not due to poor performance.
She criticized NUP for seemingly holding grudges against members who maintain personal relationships outside party lines, arguing that friendships should not be penalized.
The former NBS TV presenter also noted that Mpuuga has moved on from past disputes, whereas she feels the party remains influenced by old conflicts.
“Am unbothered by being dropped. Am also confident that I acted in line with my conscience and upheld leadership ethics.”
