
Mubarak Munyagwa, the Common Man’s Party boss
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I A presidential campaign has speed bumps as well as unanticipated disappointmrnt, as Mubarak Munyagwa, flagbearer of the Common Man’s Party would tell you.
This followed the seizure of vehicles carrying his sound system by the Uganda Police. This happened when he was rushing for a scheduled rally in Makindye, a Kampala suburb.
Speaking to journalists earlier on, Munyagwa termed this as an attempt to frustrate his campaign and lead to the downfall of the Common Man’s Party.
“We are however committed to peaceful engagement. It’s police which is trying to frustrate us and ensure that they silence the voice of the people.” He told journalists.
Munyagwa pledged to pledged to proceed with the Makindye rally, adding that with or without the sound system, the message of the common man will be heard.
Habari Daily has since learnt that police had not issued a formal statement.
Efforts to reach out to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson were futile, as he wasn’t picking his calls.
The seizure forced Munyagwa and his team into hours of negotiations at Kabalagala Police Station as they sought the release of the equipment, which he said is essential for reaching supporters.
