Babie Kyagulanyi in a medical facility in Kampala following an attack on her home
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, Uganda’s opposition leader remains in hiding as the Ugandan security agencies search for him. It is unknown why they want him. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the CDF had declared they want him, alive or dead.
The soldiers continue to occupy his home, blocking anyone trying to access it, including Bobi’s kin. Access to the home is completely restricted, and even family members bringing essential supplies like food are not permitted to enter.
Earlier, Muhoozi had accused the United States of aiding Bobi to escape. He claimed the US embassy in Kampala was facilitating the opposition leader.
Muhoozi threatened that Kampala would sever ties with its foreign partners should they help Bobi fly out of the country.
Bobi Wine challenged the legitimacy of Museveni’s seventh-term victory, arguing that the January 15 presidential election was riddled with irregularities.
Running on the NUP ticket in his second bid for the presidency, he claimed the process was neither free nor fair.
He accused the Electoral Commission in Kampala of enabling malpractices that ultimately favoured Museveni.
Uganda’s Electoral Commission declared Museveni the winner of the presidential election on January 17, having garnered 7,944,772 votes, 71.61% of the total valid ballots.
Bobi, his closest challenger, secured 2,741,238 votes, representing 24.72% of the votes.
Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that disciplinary action will be taken against soldiers who assaulted Bobi Wine’s wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi.
According to Bobi, on the night of Friday, January 30, hundreds of soldiers, many clad in SFC and UPDF uniforms, stormed his residence in Magere.
He recounted that they arrived with ladders, prepared to climb upstairs, and forcefully broke down the doors to gain entry.
Armed with hammers, they smashed walls, windows, and doors before holding his wife at gunpoint, demanding to know his whereabouts.
They then stripped her blouse, took photographs, and questioned why she had married a Muganda who dared to challenge President Yoweri Museveni.
Barbie was rushed to St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Kampala for medical attention.
Addressing the accusations of maltreatment on her by the UPDF soldiers, Muhoozi said action would be advance against them should they be found guilty.
He said the troops were well-trained on how to handle women and hence any atrocity om Barbie would not be tolerated.
“If any soldier even attempted to touch Barbie. He will be punished very severely! All our troops are briefed on how to handle women. Give us the details,” he said.
