HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Director of Criminal Investigations, Tom Magambo, has confirmed the arrest of one of the key suspects linked to the murder of Pamela Tumwebaze.
Tumwebaze, who served as Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University, was murdered at her home in Mukono in the early hours of February 11, 2026. She will be laid to rest today, February 15, at 12:00 noon at her family ancestral home in Keigoshora, Rubaya, Kashari in Mbarara District.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the assailant gained access to her residence at night and attacked her while she slept. She was later found unresponsive in her bedroom after being strangled. She was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
In a brief update, Magambo said the suspect was apprehended today in an intelligence-led operation conducted by a joint security team comprising the Police and the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT).
“One of the key suspects in the murder of the late Pamela has been arrested today by our joint team comprised of Police and JATT. Our PRO will provide further updates in due course,” Magambo said.
He added that investigations are ongoing to track down other individuals believed to have been involved in the killing.
Investigators previously noted that there were no clear signs of forced entry at the home, suggesting the attacker could have been familiar with the premises or the victim. Some personal belongings were also reported missing.
Tumwebaze had served the university for over two decades and was widely regarded as a compassionate administrator who played a key role in student welfare, mentorship, and discipline.
Her killing sparked grief across the academic community, with colleagues and students describing her as a dedicated leader and mother figure to many.
Authorities say more details regarding the arrest and progress of the investigations will be communicated in subsequent briefings.
