HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I A quiet evening in Luweero turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a 26-year-old woman lost her life in what police suspect was a violent love affair gone wrong, leaving residents of Zirobwe Town Council reeling in shock.
The deceased, identified as Caroline Kemirembe, is said to have met her death at the hands of a man believed to have been her romantic partner—an encounter that began like any other but ended in bloodshed.
Police have since arrested Boaz Namanya, also 26, a resident of Wakiso District, who is currently under tight security as he receives treatment following an alleged suicide attempt.
According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, the incident unfolded on March 28 at Kayiwa Complex Bar and Lodge in Zirobwe.
Investigators say Namanya checked into the lodge at around 3:00 PM, reportedly alone, before being joined later in the night by Kemirembe. What followed remains unclear, but police believe the two had intended only a brief stay.
“The couple had hired the lodge for a ‘short rest’ when screams were heard from within,” ASP Twiineamazima said.
Those screams, heard at about 9:00 PM, would be the last signs of life from Kemirembe.
When staff and bystanders forced their way into the room, they were met with a horrifying scene. Kemirembe had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a chilling twist, the suspect is said to have attempted to take his own life immediately after the attack.
Police reports indicate that Namanya allegedly ingested a suspected poisonous substance shortly after the incident. He was rushed to a nearby health facility, where he remains under medical supervision as detectives wait to question him.
Authorities are now working to establish whether the act was premeditated or the result of a sudden escalation in a lovers’ dispute.
For many in the community, the tragedy paints a grim picture of love turned deadly.
Residents described Kemirembe as a young woman whose life was cut short at its prime, while questions linger over what could have driven a young couple to such a fatal end.
“This is very disturbing,” one resident said. “You don’t expect that two young people who go to spend time together end up like this.”
Crime scene investigators recovered a knife believed to have been used in the हत्या, along with two mobile phones belonging to the couple. The devices are expected to provide crucial clues into their relationship and the events leading up to the fatal encounter.
Kemirembe’s body was later transferred to Kasana Luwero Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination as part of ongoing investigations.
While police have yet to establish a clear motive, early indications point to a deeply personal conflict—one that escalated beyond control.
ASP Twiineamazima said investigations are ongoing, with particular focus on the nature of the couple’s relationship, possible prior disputes, and the origin of the suspected poison.
“This is an active investigation. We are gathering all the necessary evidence to understand what exactly happened,” he said.
The incident has once again raised concern over rising cases of domestic and relationship-related violence, particularly among young people.
As the investigation continues, the story of Caroline Kemirembe stands as a tragic reminder of how quickly passion can turn into violence—and how, in this case, a young woman may have paid the ultimate price for love.
