Boda Boda’s at work
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Bebe Cool, also called Mayanja, the veteran Ugandan musician Big Size has fired back at rapper Big Trill, dismissing his recent comments about Gagamel boss ‘latest album “Break The Chains.”
The Kasepiki singer did not hold back while addressing what he termed as “disrespect” from the younger rapper.
Speaking on a local radio station, Bebe Cool expressed his displeasure over Big Trill’s advice on how he should position his music to break into foreign markets. He questioned Big Trill’s authority to speak on international music success, claiming the Parte After Parte hitmaker has never even provided credible evidence of performing in countries like Nigeria—where he’s often praised for having a fanbase.
“Let him first show us a video of him performing in Nigeria if he’s really as big as they say. Until then, he has no standing to advise me,” Bebe Cool said.
Bebe Cool emphasized that he operates at a different level in the Ugandan music industry and beyond. According to him, the value of a musician is not measured by social media hype or one hit song, but by a consistent track record of brand-building through music. He added that he cannot take advice from people who are still riding Boda Bodas and have no brand to back their success and talk.
“It is music that builds brands, and that’s what companies pay for. If he was really doing well, he wouldn’t still be broker than me,” Bebe Cool added, suggesting Big Trill still has much to learn.
The feud stems from Big Trill’s earlier comments suggesting that Break The Chains might struggle to gain traction internationally, citing factors like marketing strategy and sound appeal.
This is not the first time Bebe Cool has clashed with fellow artists over industry rankings and achievements. With over two decades in the business, he remains one of Uganda’s most outspoken and commercially successful musicians.
