Ms Priscilla Akora
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Today, Pearl Bank, a truly indigenous commercial Bank is celebrating a year after its rebrand from PostBank Uganda. Officials say that the rebranding has evolved into much more than a change of name and corporate colours.
Priscilla Akora, Pearl Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, says that this move has become a reflection of Uganda’s identity and the bank’s long-term commitment to fostering prosperity for all Ugandans.
The rebrand, approved by shareholders in June last year, marked a strategic turning point aimed at positioning the bank as a trusted partner in the country’s economic transformation.
Says Akora: “The transition was never intended to be cosmetic. The rebrand journey was more than a name change; it was a carefully thought-through strategy that continues to reflect the bank’s broader vision of Fostering Prosperity for Ugandans.”
She further explained that the bank introduced a new name, logo, colours and refreshed messaging while retaining its core mandate of serving Ugandans.
Digital progression explained
“The new identity reflects the bank’s transformation into a digitally progressive, inclusive and nationally grounded financial institution. The rebranding also signifies our readiness to embrace the future with confidence, ensuring long-term growth, relevance and impact,” she said.
Akora said the choice of the name Pearl Bank was inspired by Uganda’s globally recognised identity as the “Pearl of Africa.”
“By adopting the name Pearl Bank, we honour this legacy and evoke a deep sense of national pride. Pearls symbolise purity, wisdom, prosperity and trust, values that align with our purpose as a Ugandan-owned bank. The new name not only affirms our authentic local identity but also reinforces our commitment to stability, reliability and our mandate of fostering prosperity for Ugandans,” she noted.
Prosperity for all Ugandans
She said the bank’s strategy is anchored on two major pillars: expanding financial inclusion and supporting entrepreneurship across the country.
“Our strategic direction is rooted in the core purpose of Fostering Prosperity for Ugandans. This ambition is driven by driving sustainable financial inclusion, ensuring that all Ugandans, regardless of location or status, have access to relevant, affordable and secure financial services.
We are also stimulating entrepreneurship and services by supporting the development of Ugandan enterprises and enhancing service delivery to promote economic activity and job creation,” Akora explained.
Over the past year, Pearl Bank has continued expanding its footprint. Akora revealed that the bank opened its Luwero Branch in November as the pilot branch for the new brand identity.
“With the opening of Luwero Branch, our network now stands at 59 branches, including our new Head Office on Roscoe Road in Kololo, while our City Branch remains on Nkrumah Road. These are supported by 59 ATMs, 59 Interswitch points, more than 78,000 Wendi agents, 14 mobile banking vans and our digital channels, including the Pearl Bank App, Online Banking and Wendi Mobile Wallet.”
Rebrand ongoing
Asked whether the rebranding exercise is now complete, Akora said building a brand is an ongoing process that extends beyond changing signage and visual identity.
“Rebrands are more than a name change and brand colours. You must constantly communicate and engage various stakeholders at different levels. However, in terms of our corporate identity, the look and feel is now 100 percent aligned to the new visual identity across all our branches, head office and digital platforms, including our website, ATMs and the Pearl Bank App.”
She added that only a few co-branded materials with external partners are still being updated to reflect the new identity.
Akora also urged customers who still hold PostBank ATM cards and cheque books to replace them before the transition deadlines.
“We encourage our customers to obtain Pearl ATM cards and cheque books because the PostBank ones are no longer in use. Customers can visit any of our branches with a national ID before December 2026 for cheque books and before January 2027 for ATM cards.”
First anniversary gratitude
Reflecting on the first anniversary of the rebrand, Akora expressed gratitude to customers, staff, partners, management and the board for supporting the transition.
“The rebrand has been a profound milestone in Pearl Bank’s journey, and we thank our customers who have embraced the new identity with positivity. We have received many positive reviews that the new name truly reflects who Uganda is, the Pearl of Africa.
She equally thanked their staff for being ambassadors of the Pearl Bank brand. “These are our partners who helped turn the vision into reality, and our management and board who have been key stewards throughout the transition. Our customers remain central to everything we do because when we grow, Uganda prospers.”
