Her life, characterised by bumpy relationships, public scrutiny and personal tragedy has come to an end with the sudden passing of Nalongo Maggie Kaweesi, the widow of late Ugandan musician Emmanuel Mayanja, popularly known as AK47, and the mother of his twins.
Media reports indicate that Kaweesi died on Monday afternoon at Mengo Hospital after developing health complications, just days after returning to Uganda from abroad.
Her death was confirmed by family friend and events promoter Vegas, who said Kaweesi had been admitted to the hospital for three days after her health deteriorated.
“It is bad news. God has called her. She had just come back to the country,” Vegas told reporters.
“She often came and went, but this time she developed some complications with her internal organs. She passed away moments ago at Mengo Hospital. We are at the hospital. She had spent three days here.”
By the time of publication, the family had not disclosed the exact cause of her illness or announced burial arrangements.
Celebrity couple
Kaweesi rose to public prominence through her relationship with AK47, one of Uganda’s celebrated musicians and a member of the famous Mayanja family. The couple had twins together, and their relationship attracted significant public attention both during and after the singer’s lifetime.
