HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I PACEID Skills 6,000 in Bresidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) has overseen training of a total of 6,112 people from Bunyoro sub-region.
The group attained farming and industrial skills after attending a six-month training, during which they were trained in piggery, fish farming, fruit farming, bricklaying, bakery, photography, radio and television presenting, among others.
Odrek Rwabwogo, the PACEID chairperson said the beneficiaries were also trained in computer application, tailoring, motor vehicle mechanics, goat rearing, music and soap making.
Speaking during a Certificate awarding ceremony held recently, he said the skilling programme is an initiative of the collaboration between PACEID and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT).
He shared personal experiences to inspire the graduates and emphasised the importance of learning from failures and bouncing back stronger, rather than being disheartened by setbacks.
Rwabwogo urged the graduates to view failure as an opportunity for self-reflection and improvement, rather than a reason to give up on their dreams.
“Failure is not the end of the road, but a stepping stone towards success,” Rwabwogo said, urging them not to be afraid of taking risks.
Matthew Bagonza, the head of the PACEID secretariat, urged graduates to maintain discipline and aim for higher rewards.
Dr Patrick Byakatonda, the DIT director, appreciated PACEID for their efforts in enhancing participants’ employability and encouraged the graduates to upgrade their skills to higher vocational-level competencies to compete better in the global market.
Mary Grace Mugasa, the state minister for public service, said such massive trainings which sees thousands of participants certified after obtaining pratical training as the way to go for Uganda
“These skilling programmes create a lasting impact on the industrial landscape of the country,” she said.
This training involves equipping individuals with skills and the knowledge necessary for success in the global marketplace with an aim of unlocking the region’s economic potential.
