Kadaga picks the NRM MP nomination forms from Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission head recently
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Kadaga wave is in high flight in Busoga, making anyone allied with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs a victor, at least in the NRM Primaries.
On Thursday night, Rebecca Kadaga was announced as the victor in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries and will be its flag bearer for the Kamuli District Woman Member of Parliament slot.
Kadaga, who is the incumbent area MP, won the race overwhelmingly with 107,162 votes, representing 91.8% of the vote.
Deborah Mugerwa Mwesigwa, who was her closest rival, garnered 4,178 votes, representing 3.58% of the vote, closely followed by Noet Nangobi with 4,138 votes (3.54%).
On the tail end was Veronica Kagona, who came in fourth with 1,252 votes, representing 1.07% of the vote. Kadaga, who is also the NRM First National Vice Chairperson (Female), the biggest female position in the ruling party, has promised to win back Busoga for the NRM party.
Kadaga, who is one of the longest-serving members of Parliament, as well as the NRM First National Vice Chairperson (Female), the biggest female position in the ruling party, could not come to the rescue of her contemporaries, Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, and the spokesperson for the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, Brandon Kintu, who were voted out
The ruling party is now hopeful that the Kadaga wave might be sustained longer, and change the political tide in Busoga, which overwhelmingly voted for the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) in the 2021 general elections.
