The President signs on to the Museveni Awooma album launch
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) is preparing to unveil the Yoweri Music Album at Rwenzori Convention Center, Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The launch, to be held on 27th September 2025, will bring together producers, songwriters, and artistes from across the country and will be attended by Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as chief guest.
The initiative, led by UNMF President Edriisa Musuuza (Eddy Kenzo), underscores the Federation’s dual mission: to protect artistes’ rights through stronger copyright enforcement and to unify Uganda’s creative sector.
Formed in May 2023, UNMF emerged as an umbrella body bringing together various music associations, with leadership that includes top artistes such as Sheebah Karungi, Pallaso, Juliana Kanyomozi, and Bebe Cool.
From its inception, the Federation has advocated for stronger legal frameworks to protect musicians’ work, highlighting long-standing vulnerabilities to piracy, unfair contracts, and loss of revenue.
The Yoweri Music Album is more than just a collection of songs. It is a cultural and political statement.
Eddy Kenzo has described it as a celebration of Uganda’s creative talent from all regions and a showcase of the sector’s growth under what UNMF calls “visionary leadership.”
Beyond entertainment, the album reinforces the enduring relationship between Uganda’s music industry and national leadership. Over the years, musicians have been an integral part of political campaigns, performing at rallies, producing campaign songs, and lending their voices to messages of national development.
In 2015, prominent artists such as Jose Chameleone, Juliana Kanyomozi, Irene Namubiru, Judith Babirye, and Rema Namakula collaborated on the campaign anthem “Tubonga Nawe”, supporting President Museveni’s re-election bid.
More recently, in August 2024, Museveni met with over 100 musicians at State House, Entebbe, where Eddy Kenzo raised concerns about weak copyright enforcement
The President pledged continued support for the creative sector.
The timing of the Yoweri Music Album launch is significant, coinciding with the lead-up to the 2026 elections. Music has long been used in Uganda as a tool for political engagement, shaping public sentiment and fostering national identity.
Past album launches include the Museveni Awooma album in 2023, have combined entertainment with strategic messaging, demonstrating how Uganda’s creative sector interacts with governance and political mobilization.
