The Uganda National Flag
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Uganda Police has vowed to crack the whip on anyone misusing the national flag for political reasons.
The use of the Uganda national flag is regulated under the National Flag and Armorial Ensigns Act and that anyone wishing to use it must first obtain permission from the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs,” reads part of a recent statement.
It noted that the Force would move against anyone violating that regulation.
The Police further said that the law specifically prohibits any person from using the national flag or armorial ensigns in a way that may mislead the public into believing such use is officially authorized.
Without the minister’s consent, the offenders risk fines or imprisonment upon conviction.”
During New Year address delivered at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, Robert Kyagulanyi, a Presidentail aspirant, defended his call for citizens to protect people attacked for carrying the national flag.
He said that the Uganda flag has become a symbol of resistance along the opposition’s “protest vote” campaign trail ahead of the 2026 general elections.
He urged citizens to come to the defence of anyone assaulted for carrying the flag, adding that their struggle remains non-violent, but there is no dignity in taking an unfair beating lying down if we can defend ourselves against it.
Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, added that the constitution permits citizens to take action in defence of their rights.
