HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Value addition remains critical to creating jobs and retaining wealth within Africa. Said President Yoweri Museveni in remarks made today while hosting Charlene Ruto, the daughter to President William Ruto of Kenya.
The meeting between Museveni and Charlene’s team took place at State Lodge, Nakasero. It focused on strengthening regional cooperation and advancing value addition in the leather industry as a driver of Africa’s economic transformation.
Welcoming Ms. Ruto, the President expressed satisfaction with her interest in investing on the continent, emphasising that trade is a major unifying factor among Africans.
“Africa must process its raw materials locally. How do we create jobs for our young people if we continue exporting raw materials and importing finished goods? That is where there is a big hemorrhage,” the President said.
He reiterated his long-standing position that regional collaboration and industrial growth are essential for sustainable development.
On her part, Ms. Ruto congratulated President Museveni upon his recent electoral victory and briefed him on her family’s long-standing involvement in business and manufacturing in Kenya.
She noted that her team is keen on strengthening regional supply chains and deepening cooperation with Uganda as part of broader efforts to promote intra-African trade.

Ms. Ruto also disclosed that she had earlier met with Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to discuss further avenues of cooperation and partnership.
Who is Charlene Ruto?
Born 11 January 1993, Charlene is the daughter of the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto. She is a political figure, public relations consultant, and philanthropist.
She has participated in national and international forums, often under her unofficial “Office of the First Daughter” role. In addition to her First Daughter role, Ruto has worked in media relations, Public relations, and philanthropy.
Charlene is the third-born daughter to Kenya’s President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Daystar University, and a Master of Business Administration in Hospitality from Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
Between August 2012 to January 2013, she was a foreign exchange student at Northwestern College. She is certified in Kenyan Sign Language and a member of the Deaf community.
