The four slain children being prayed for at the Ggaba Community Church
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Pastor Joseph Sserwadda has challenged Uganda’s Judiciary to set what he called a “judicial record” in the way it handles the heartbreaking case of the four children killed in Ggaba. He said the tragedy has shocked the nation and now presents a crucial test of the government’s commitment to justice.
Speaking after the incident, Pastor Sserwadda, the lead pastor at the Victory Christian Center, urged authorities to move with speed and ensure the suspect is presented before court as early as tomorrow, saying the country needs to see that the justice system can respond firmly in cases involving innocent children.
The children were slayed in cold blood last Thursday at Ggaba Early Childhood Development and Day Care Center in Kampala, in an incident that shocked the nation.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher Okello Onyum, who reportedly attacked the children while they were at the daycare facility.
The deaths sent waves of grief through the Ggaba community, with families, church leaders, and residents gathering for a memorial service at Ggaba Community Church. The emotional service brought together mourners seeking answers and demanding justice for the young victims.
Police has intensified investigations into the motive and exact circumstances are ongoing, after President Yoweri Museveni directed that the suspect’s crime record be investigated.
This followed media reports that several years ago, Onyum attacked and killed his own step brother, but the case was never escalleted, leading to Police’s loss of interest in it.
Security agencies are now piecing together witness accounts and forensic evidence to strengthen the prosecution’s case.
The major next legal step is the suspect’s appearance before court, where prosecutors are expected to formally read out the charges and begin the judicial process.
Pastor Sserwadda says the speed and seriousness with which the state handles this case will send a message about how Uganda protects its children and punishes crimes against them.
His call reflects growing public pressure for fast, transparent, and uncompromising justice.
For many Ugandans, this is no longer just a criminal case—it has become a national moment of reflection on child safety, trust in daycare centers, and the efficiency of the courts.
Dr Joseph Serwadda is Senior Minister of the Victory Christian Center, one of the mega-denominations in Uganda with over 470 branch churches pioneered across Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Sweden, Denmark, USA & UK.
