Onapito Ekomoloit’s Gallantry Follows him to His Burial Place

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I   All compatriots who eulogised Francis Onapito Ekomoloit at a mass held at St Luke’s Church in Ntinda, Kampala on Tuesday, talked of him as a fearless, gallant General whose presence will be heavily missed.

The former presidential press secretary (PPS), who passed away on September 27, 2024, will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Asalatap on Saturday, November 30th.

Margaret Muhanga, the state minister for primary healthcare, who represented the Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, hailed  Onapito for his dedication to public service, and national development, and his influential roles in the Government and private sector.

“He has left an indelible mark on Uganda’s political and social landscape. During his reign as a Member of Parliament for Amuria County, he was an influential figure as well as visionary leader,” she said.

Catherine Kiyai Onapito, the late’s wife shared memories of their 22 years together, calling her former husband as a mentor and leader, who never missed a school concert or game, since he was always there for their children.

She expressed gratitude for the time they had together, saying that his legacy would live on through the initiatives he started.

Jackie Tahakanizibwa, the chairperson of the Uganda Alcohol Industry Association, remembered Onapito for his exemplified leadership that transcended his role, since he would put others first and excelled a tin uniting people.

He depicted such traits when he was chairman of Nile Breweries Limited, among other roles. All speakers were in agreement that Onapito’s gallantry will follow him all the way to the burial ground.

Onapito’s funeral arrangements will begin with a funeral service at St Peter’s Cathedral in Soroti on Thursday, before the burial ceremony to be held on Saturday. They are being overseen by a high level national organizing committee, led by minister Babalanda.
