Private Ruhamya Kainerugaba (L)
The House Of Museveni has been boosted by another military addition. Private Ruhamya Kainerugaba is undergoing military training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, extending the Museveni family’s military legacy into another generation.
The development was revealed on Thursday by Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who confirmed on social media platform X that his son is currently enrolled at the elite military institution and performing well.
“My beloved son, Ruhamya, is doing an excellent job in Sandhurst. All good Ugandans should pray for him every day,” Muhoozi wrote, highlighting both pride and national symbolism in the young cadet’s journey.
Ruhamya Kainerugaba, listed as a private under training, is currently undergoing rigorous officer cadet preparation at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, one of the world’s most respected military academies known for producing senior commanders, heads of state, and royal military officers.
The post was accompanied by images showing Ruhamya in combat gear during field exercises alongside fellow cadets, underscoring the demanding nature of the training environment.
In a follow-up post, Gen Muhoozi drew a generational comparison, sharing an image from his own days at Sandhurst nearly three decades ago. “Father and son going through the same hardships. Separated by 27 years. God bless Ruhamya,” he wrote.
The side-by-side reflection quickly gained attention online, with supporters describing it as a powerful illustration of continuity, discipline, and the deepening military tradition within the First Family often referred to as the “House of Museveni.”
Muhoozi himself is a product of the same institution. He joined the Uganda People’s Defence Forces in 1999 as an Officer Cadet and later graduated from Sandhurst in 2000, before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
His military career has since seen him rise rapidly through the ranks, commanding elite units including the Special Forces Command and Land Forces, before being appointed Chief of Defence Forces. His trajectory has often been cited as emblematic of the strong linkage between Uganda’s political leadership and military establishment.
Sandhurst, where Ruhamya is now training, has a long global reputation for shaping military leadership. The academy has trained figures such as former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and several African and Middle Eastern leaders, alongside members of the British Royal Family including Princes William and Harry.
Other notable graduates include former Nigerian Head of State Yakubu Gowon, Botswana’s former President Ian Khama, and several Gulf monarchs, reinforcing its status as a premier institution for military leadership development.
Ruhamya’s enrollment also comes months after Muhoozi publicly announced that his son had joined the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, describing it as a proud continuation of service within the family.
At the time, he framed it as a blessing to the “House of Museveni” following more than three decades of his own military service.
With Ruhamya now undergoing training at Sandhurst, observers say the move signals a continuation of a long-standing military lineage that remains closely intertwined with Uganda’s leadership structure, further extending the family’s presence within the country’s defence establishment.
