
MP and LC5 aspirants who gathered at the NRM party headquarters on Kyadondo Road, Kampala recently to pick nomination forms
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The 86 years old Moses Ali, the powerful four-star general, who has represented Adjumani West in Parliament for decades was one of the NRM big shots who picked nomination forms recently to participate in National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections.
Ali, a former rebel leader turned Museveni’s ally, was first elected in 1994 to the Constituent Assembly and has held various positions since, Including deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Disaster Preparedness.
On arrival at the NRM electoral commission offices, Moses Ali did not leave his car. His assistants submitted all his documents and picked the nomination forms.
Ali was one of the 296 MP hopefuls who picked nomination forms. 132 of these picked forms for Woman MP seats, while only 80 picked forms for LC5 positions.
According to Tanga Odoi, the Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission, on day one, 795 candidates picked nomination forms.
“This brings the total number of MPs and LC5 aspirants to 1,303 after two days. Picking of nomination forms for hopefuls ends on June 15,” he said in a recent interview.
Ministers who picked nomination forms for MP seats include Employment and Industrial Relations State Minister, Esther Anyakun, Industry State Minister, David Bahati, Finance State Minister (General Duties), Henry Musasizi, Planning State Minister, Amos Lugoloobi, Primary Education State Minister Joyce Moriku Kaducu, and Environment State Minister Beatrice Anywar.
Others include Health State Minister (General Duties), Anifa Kawooya Urban Development State Minister Obiga Kania, Second Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali, Third Deputy Prime Minister Lukia Nakadama, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, Security Minister, Jim Muhwezi, Fisheries State Minister Hellen Adoa and Disability Affairs State Minister Hellen Asamo.
Some of the MPs who picked nomination forms include Brenda Namukuta (Kaliro Woman), Enos Asiimwe (Kabula county), Norah
Bigirwa Nyendwoha (Buliisa), and Igara East MP Michael Mawanda.
Odoi further revealed that the NRM party has registered more 508 candidates vying for Member of Parliament (MP) and local council [LC5] positions nationwide.
The aspirants picked forms at the party headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala.
