
The late Nabiwemba
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Shock and grief gripped the legal fraternity and residents of Wampeewo, Kasangati in Wakiso District, following the discovery of Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Fatuma Nabiwemba Ssendagire, dead inside her home. This is after she wemt missing for four days.
According to reports, the 47-year-old was last seen alive on Monday, July 7, 2025. From neighbors, concerns grew after they smelled a foul stench and flies coming from her house by Thursday evening. This prompted them to force entry only to find her lying unresponsive on the bed.
“The deceased was found unresponsive inside her residence in Wampeewo, Kasangati Town Council, where she lived alone. The body had no physical injuries,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire. He said that since the late Nabiwemba was a high profile person, they cannon rule out foul play as cause of death.
Authorities have since transported the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death. According to preliminary police reports, detectives have recovered various personal documents from the house. These include a letter from Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital, indicating that Nabiwemba had previously undergone treatment for mental health issues.
Her disappearance was officially reported on July 10 by Hamuza Kabanda, a driver from the DPP’s office.
Eye witnesses testified that it was not the first time the deceased had gone missing. “In December 2017, she disappeared from her marital home but was found two months later. Her husband at the time cited post-natal depression following the death of their infant child,” said a source on condition of anonymity.
The Office of the DPP has already released a statement expressing their sorrow:
“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions regrets to announce the untimely passing of Counsel Fatuma Nabiwemba, which occurred at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” reads part of the statement.
Investigations are ongoing to establish whether her death was a result of natural causes, suicide, or foul play.
