HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The ongoing NRM primaries have been gripped with tension as many party big shots are trailing, and are likely to lose the chance to represent the party as parliamentary flag bearers across the country in the forthcoming general elections.
For Lwemiyaga, in Sembabule district, which is well known as a violence hotspot, tension is at its boiling point as votes are being counted. Results are coming in from the 133 polling stations where veteran MP Theodore Ssekikubo is tussling it out agains his fierce challenger, Brig Gen (Rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande.
Earlier in the day, the two rivals crashed in bitter verbal exchange, which ended unceremoniously when Ssekikubo pretended to be receiving a phone call and moved away.

Tensions were also high in other violence-prone constituencies such as Rubanda, Lwengo, Isingiro, Kitagwenda and others.

Results have started flooding social media from some of the constituencies, showing some party top shots enjoying early leads.
From Bukoto South in Lwengo district, the incumbent, Twaha Kagabo, who months ago crossed from the opposition NUP to the NRM, was trailing his opponent, Muyanja Mbabaali.
Another new NRM entrant, Ojara Mapinduzi, appeared to struggle in the preliminary results from Bardege-Layibi Division. Musician Bosmic Otim is enjoying a big lead from several polling stations.
Other results from the field showed other NRM top shots taking a lead among them, Jim Muhwezi in Rujumbura, Fiona Nyamutoro in Nebbi, and Balyeku in Jinja South West.
