Ugandan lovers of fireworks now have a reason to smile following the unveiling of Jwala Fireworks Centre in Naguru, Kampala.
The launch, which coincided with the colorful Diwali festival, marked a historic step toward promoting safe, affordable, and well-regulated fireworks experiences across the country.
The grand opening attracted a distinguished gathering of guests, including business leaders, members of the Indian community, government representatives, and families eager to witness the dawn of a safer way to celebrate.
Among the notable figures in attendance was Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, a renowned businessman and philanthropist, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the importance of corporate responsibility and community empowerment.

His presence underscored the idea that business ventures can drive both joy and development when anchored in safety and inclusivity.
Speaking at the event, Amitesh Kumar, one of the partners at Jwala Fireworks, expressed deep appreciation to the Uganda Police Force and all supporters who made the dream a reality.
“This initiative goes beyond selling fireworks. It’s about giving Ugandans a safe and joyful space to celebrate together — responsibly and proudly.”
Paresh Mehta, one of the brains behind the supermarket, who is also the chairman, Indian Association Uganda appreciated the Government of President Yoweri Museveni for the prevailing peace, which has made it possible for many Indians to come and invest in Uganda
Joining virtually from Tanzania, another partner – Jigar Chandarana, extended his congratulations, calling the project a “visionary milestone for Uganda’s festive culture.”
The Uganda Police Force, represented by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yusuf Waiswa Mukisa, commended Jwala Fireworks for pioneering a structured and controlled approach to fireworks distribution.
“This centre will serve as a model of responsible fireworks use. It will make it easier for us to educate the public on safety measures and help prevent accidents during celebrations.”
In a move that’s set to democratize celebrations, Jwala Fireworks has made fireworks accessible to everyone, with prices starting from as low as Shs1,000. Whether it’s for birthdays, weddings, Christmas, Diwali, or New Year’s, families can now add sparkle to their events without breaking the bank.

The new centre, which is located at the former Panamera Bar, opposite Kampala Parents School — provides a controlled environment where families can experience fireworks under supervision and learn about safe handling. For parents, this means children can finally enjoy fireworks without fear of harm or unsafe conditions.
The launch concluded with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, officiated by top police officers including Afande Patrick Lawot, Deputy Director, Counter Terrorism at the Uganda Police Force, and Afande Simon Peter Okoth, Uganda Police’s Deputy Director, Operations both praised the partnership for advancing community safety.
The launch of this historical supermarket symbolised not just the opening of a business, but the beginning of a new culture of responsible celebration in Uganda — one where joy, safety, and affordability go hand in hand.
With the establishment of the Jwala Fireworks Centre, Uganda joins the ranks of countries promoting regulated, accessible, and family-friendly celebrations.
The initiative reflects how collaboration between the private sector and government can inspire progress rooted in safety and happiness.
Kumar summed it up perfectly: “Our goal is simple — to light up Uganda’s skies and hearts with joy, responsibility, and with pride.”
