Ronald Mulwana being ferried to hospital by Police officers following the accident
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Police have confirmed that a journalist injured in a motor accident at a court venue is in stable condition, following a chaotic incident involving a prison transport vehicle on Wednesday.
The accident, which occurred as a mobile court session was about to begin, left an online blogger, Ronald Mulwana, feared dead after he was knocked down by a reversing vehicle. Mulwana operated a TikTok account under the name PL on TV.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident involved a van belonging to the Uganda Prisons Service, registration number UU 00067, which was transporting murder suspect Christopher Okello Onyum. The suspect is accused in the killing of four children in Ggaba and had been brought for a scheduled court appearance.
Witnesses say the van was reversing on a slope as it approached the venue when its brakes reportedly failed. A video clip of the incident shows security personnel scrambling to jump out of the vehicle’s path as it rolled backwards uncontrollably.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop after running over Mulwana, who was caught beneath it and dragged before his body emerged at the front. He sustained severe head injuries and lost consciousness at the scene.
Police officers at the scene quickly responded, rushing both Mulwana and the injured journalist to hospital. Authorities have since confirmed that the journalist is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
Despite the dramatic incident, court proceedings were not interrupted. The session proceeded as planned, with Okello formally committed to the High Court for trial over the alleged murders.
Police have launched investigations into the cause of the accident, with early indications pointing to possible mechanical failure. Officials say a full report will be released after inspections of the vehicle and statements from witnesses are completed.
