Rajiv Ruparelia’s Cremation Will Be An “Invite-Only Ceremony,” Says Family

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I   An “invite-only ceremony,” is how one would describe the event and people who will witness the cremation of the remains of Rajiv Ruparelia, the son to property mogul Sudhir Ruparelia, which are set for tomorrow in Kampala.

The deceased’s body will be placed in a cremation container, incinerated in an industrial furnace called a cremation chamber or retort, and reduced to basic chemical compounds – gases, ashes, and mineral fragments, known as cremains.

The ceremony, which will take place at the at the Hindu crematorium in Lugogo on Tuesday, 6th May 2025, will be attended by slightly less than fifty people.

According to a close family associate, those who will attend have been hand-picked and will be personally invited by the Ruparelia family.

“Cremation will be held at the Hindu crematorium in Lugogo at 2.30pm, Tuesday 6th May 2025,” reads a brief official statement from the Ruparelia Family, before they humbly asked that their privacy be respected during this tough and trying time.

“Vigil is on at the Ruparelia residence in Kololo until the cremation on Tuesday. Om Shanti,” reads an unsigned statement from the family.

The country is yet to come to terms with the young Rajiv’s death, which happened in the wee hours of Saturday morning after the deceased reportedly lost control of his Nissan GTR vehicle after colliding with temporary pavements installed at the roundabout section of the near the Busabala flyover.

The vehicle subsequently overturned and caught fire, leading to Rajiv’s instant death.

Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, said investigations are still ongoing pertaining the crash and eventualities surrounding it.

“The Police at Kajjansi are currently on the ground investigating, since it was them who registered it as a fatal crash on Saturday, around 1:54am,” he said, adding that they have also learnt that Rajiv was alone in the car, and that the accident caused no further fatalities in the surrounding area.

Social media is awash with posts on how careless the road constructors can get, some proposing that the Ruparelia family should take legal action to obtain redress in the matter.
