HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I A total of 62 officers of the Special Forces Command (SFC) have been decorated following their promotion to new ranks in recognition of their service, commitment and professional conduct.
The officers, comprising 15 senior and 47 junior officers, were decorated today during a ceremony presided over by the SFC Commander, Maj Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, at SFC Headquarters in Entebbe.
Congratulating the promoted officers, Maj Gen. Nyakikuru reminded them that promotion comes with increased responsibility, accountability and expectations.
He urged them to lead by example, uphold discipline and professionalism, mentor junior personnel, and continuously acquire knowledge and skills to remain adaptable to the demands of modern military operations.
The Commander further challenged the officers to translate their new responsibilities into improved operational readiness, training, physical fitness and professional competence while maintaining cohesion within their formations.
The SFC Deputy Commander, Brig Gen. John Bosco Asinguza, advised the promoted officers to exercise their authority with courage, humility, justice and restraint, stressing that greater responsibility requires greater accountability.
“Your strength will matter a lot, but most importantly, your character upon the rise in the ranks will matter even more,” Brig Gen. Asinguza said.
He also acknowledged the contribution of spouses and families, noting that their sacrifice, prayers and unwavering support provide an important foundation for the officers’ service.
Speaking on behalf of the decorated officers, Lt Col. Nicholas Kagaba, Commander of the 17th Field Engineers Brigade, expressed appreciation to the UPDF leadership for recognising their service and pledged their continued commitment to serving Uganda with loyalty, integrity, discipline and courage.
He urged fellow officers to use their new authority to build themselves, develop those under their leadership and contribute to strengthening the UPDF.
The ceremony was also attended by the Director of Human Resource Management, Col. Night Ikiriza, who read the citations, SFC group and brigade commanders and their deputies, as well as other directors, officers, non-commissioned officers and spouses.
