HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Kayunga–Jinja Road, where the fatal accident which claimed the life of Moses Karangwa Kalisa, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Duties and National Resistance Movement Chairperson for Kayunga District occurred, is among several busy transport routes that have frequently recorded serious crashes involving private vehicles, commercial transporters and motorcycles.
Road safety advocates have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, improved road infrastructure and increased driver discipline to curb the rising number of deaths on Ugandan roads. This latest fatal road crash has been long in waiting.
has died following a fatal road accident along the Kayunga–Jinja Road, in yet another tragedy highlighting the growing dangers on Uganda’s major highways.
Kalisa reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, although authorities had not by Monday released full details surrounding the circumstances of the accident.
News of his death was confirmed by the Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, through an official condolence message issued on Monday.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of the Senior Presidential Advisor and Chairperson of NRM Kayunga District, Moses Karangwa Kalisa, following a tragic accident,” Babalanda said.
She described the deceased as a committed mobiliser and a loyal cadre of the ruling NRM party who dedicated years to strengthening party structures in different parts of the country.
“He was a valued member of our mighty party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and he will be remembered for his loyalty to the party,” she added.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Kalisa’s death has once again drawn attention to the increasing number of fatal road accidents on major highways across Uganda, despite continuous road safety campaigns by traffic authorities aimed at reducing reckless driving, speeding and dangerous overtaking.
Before his latest appointment, Kalisa served as NRM Chairperson for Jinja Municipality, where he became widely known for his grassroots mobilisation efforts and active involvement in party activities across the Busoga sub-region.
In January this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed him Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Duties, elevating him to one of the advisory positions within government.
His appointment was viewed by party supporters as recognition of his long-standing loyalty and contribution to the NRM’s political mobilisation efforts.
Leaders within the ruling party and local supporters have since begun mourning him as a dedicated political mobiliser whose influence extended across several districts in eastern Uganda.
By press time, funeral arrangements had not yet been officially communicated by family members or officials from the NRM party.
