HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The death toll of Ugandans who have died in the Kuwait fire outbreak has risen to seven.
This follows the death of another Ugandan, who succumbed to severe burns he sustained in the fire that gutted the apartment in which they stayed. This increases the death toll from six to seven.
According to sources that talked to the Habari Daily reporter, Ahamada Taika became the latest victim of the fire. He was reportedly admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Dhagij Hospital on July 1st.
The fire outbreak occurred at around 4:00 am while the victims were asleep in their Al Riggai residential building.
The source also disclosed that Batista Nsamba is the only known survivor in the fire , and that he was reportedly discharged from the aforementioned hospital after treatment.
Ugandans in Kuwait are mourning the tragic loss of six of their compatriots who perished in a deadly fire that broke out earlier this week. “The fire was triggered by an air conditioning unit that overheated, causing flames to spread rapidly throughout the building,” said the souce on condition of anonymity. He added that the Ugandans, who were deep asleep, were unable to escape the tragedy.
Among those confirmed dead are Ian Jonathan Musiime and Fred Ndawula, who were burnt beyond recognition. The other victims have been identified as Hudson Kikomeko, Gita Wilberforce, Esawo Gaganga and Harold Kafeero.
Sources at the Ugandan embassy in Kuwait disclosed that they are working closely with local authorities and the affected families to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies to Kampala for burial.
The Kuwaiti Government has reportedly pledged to offer Shs55m to the bereaved families of each victim, to go towards burial expenses.
