HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Uganda’s 2026 presidential race promises to move in a more organized fashion after the Electoral Commission (EC) successfully brokered a harmonized campaign program with all eight nominated candidates.
The agreement was sealed after two days of talks at the EC headquarters on 7th Street, Industrial Area, between Friday, September 26, to Saturday, September 27. They brought together representatives of the different candidates to iron out potential points of conflict.
According to the EC, the harmonized roadmap is designed to ensure that no two candidates campaign in the same district on the same day, reducing chances of confrontation among rival supporters. A memorandum of understanding was signed, committing all candidates to abide by the schedule.
Speaking at the close of the talks, EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi praised the spirit of cooperation.
“The Commission salutes and congratulates the presidential candidates, through their agents, for reaching this important milestone through a peaceful process,” he said.
He urged candidates, supporters, and other stakeholders to uphold discipline during the campaign period.
“By doing so, we shall ensure a peaceful campaign period and indeed a peaceful electoral process. We want campaigns that respect each other, put Uganda first, and give pride to our country,” Mucunguzi emphasized.
The harmonized campaign timetable will take effect today, Monday September 29, 2025, the day of the official launch of the campaigns for all eight contenders ahead of polling day on January 15, 2026.
