HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Kabale University and the family of Apolot Maureen Gloria are mourning her untimely death just days before she was set to graduate.
The university confirmed that Apolot, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture student, passed away on 15th October 2025. She had been battling illness since August, initially receiving treatment at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, but her condition worsened, reportedly due to tuberculosis that progressed to meningitis.
Apolot, aged 30, hailed from Damasiko Village, Damasiko Parish, Gweeri County in Soroti District. Her burial is scheduled for Sunday, 19th October, in her hometown.
Tragically, Apolot is not the first student to die close to graduation at Kabale University. In 2024, final-year Education students Methodius Niwamanya and Osbert Natuhwera, along with Byaruhanga Merekezedeki, lost their lives in a motorcycle accident just weeks before completing their studies. More recently, first-year Agriculture student Christmas Aron was also found dead at Ngorongosa Pond.
The university community continues to grieve these losses while highlighting the need for support for students facing health challenges.
