Faridah Nakazibwe hosting a visitor on NTV in the morning
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Former NTV news anchor Faridah Nakazibwe has finally revealed why she decided to quit television after many successful years on air.
Speaking during an interview with Ruth Kalibala, Faridah said that her decision to leave wasn’t sudden but rather something that had been building up over time. She explained that she had reached a point where her body and mind were completely worn out.
“I was tired both mentally and physically. I had reached my limit,” Faridah said.
She shared that one particular story pushed her over the edge. It was about a woman who had been involved in an accident along Kira Road and had both of her legs amputated.
“That story broke me,” she said. “I cried on screen, though viewers didn’t notice because the video of the woman was playing.”
According to Faridah, that experience left her deeply emotional, and it made her realize how much pain she had been carrying from the stories she covered over the years. She said she often put herself in the shoes of the people she interviewed, which slowly drained her emotionally.
Faridah also revealed that she had set a personal limit for her TV career. “I had always planned to work for a maximum of 15 years,” she said. “I didn’t want to grow gray hair while still on TV. I wanted to leave while still fresh.”
She added that she longed for a more flexible life — one where she could control her schedule, wake up when she wanted, and focus on herself.
The former TV anchor said her producer later noticed her struggle and encouraged her to open up about how she was feeling. That conversation, she says, helped her finally make the decision to quit.
Today, Faridah is enjoying life away from the camera. She says she feels renewed and at peace, doing things at her own pace.
Though she may no longer be on TV, Faridah Nakazibwe remains one of Uganda’s most loved and respected media personalities — admired for her professionalism, compassion, and years of service to the industry.
