HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Charles Mbire, one of Uganda’s most prominent businessmen and investors, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, led a delegation to State House Entebbe today to discuss issues of concern.
Mbire is, widely regarded as one of the wealthiest indigenous Ugandans, often described as a dollar centimillionaire. As of February 2026, his listed portfolio, largely anchored in his 4% stake in MTN Uganda, is valued at approximately $ 91.1 million to over $ 108 million.
According to a press statement issued by the Special Presidential Assistant – Press & Mobilization and Deputy Spokesperson, Faruk Kirunda, the high level delegation also included Sylvia Mulinge, MTN Uganda’s Chief Executive Officer and the General Manager Corporate Services, Enid Edroma.
The meeting took place at State House, Entebbe.
“The meeting focused on the strategic role of the telecommunications sector in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation, promoting innovation, and enhancing service delivery across the country,” reads part of the statement.
It further noted that discussions highlighted the critical contribution of digital connectivity and fintech platforms in supporting government priorities, particularly in expanding access to financial services, improving efficiency in public service delivery, and enabling economic participation at the grassroots level.
“The President commended MTN Uganda for its continued investment and contribution to national development, noting the importance of telecommunications and digital financial services as key enablers of Uganda’s broader transformation agenda.”
He also expressed satisfaction with the effective utilisation of telecom and fintech infrastructure in supporting socio-economic progress and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting efforts that strengthen digital inclusion, innovation, and connectivity for all Ugandans.
On their part, the MTN Uganda delegation commended Museveni and the NRM government for creating an enabling investment climate that has enabled companies such as MTN to thrive.
