Evelyn Anite after a meeting at the finance ministry today, with a delegation led by Paul Zhang of Mbale Industrial Park
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Ugandan government has offered more than 1,200 acres of land in Lusenke, Kayunga District to Chinese investors to support industrial development.
State Minister for Privatization and Investment, Evelyn Anite, received a delegation from China led by investor Paul Zhang. Zhang is known for developing industrial parks in Uganda, including Mbale and Mbalala, which host factories producing items like mattresses, electronics, and household goods.
While meeting the delegation, Anite said the government is focused on turning Uganda into a strong industrial economy. She noted that the land was offered in recognition of Zhang’s efforts in attracting investors to the country.
“Our goal is not just to talk about a $500 billion economy, but to make it happen through real investments that create jobs,” she said.
The government plans to set up key projects in the area, including a solar power plant and a chemical manufacturing factory. These projects are expected to create over 200,000 jobs in the coming years, especially for young graduates and skilled workers.
Lusenke was chosen because of its strategic location near a hydropower station, which will ensure reliable electricity supply. The plan is also to build a full industrial community with schools, hospitals, and shopping centers for workers and their families.
Anite encouraged Ugandans to support investors who choose to invest in the country.
A representative from Shenzhen Mingyang Technology Company, Lu Wei, said their company is interested in setting up in Uganda to provide battery storage solutions for factories, helping ensure stable power supply.
